Mesa Public Schools in Mesa, AZ is seeking an Interpreter II to provide interpreting and transliterating services for hearing-impaired students. The role requires an Associate degree or 60+ college credits, or the ability to pass the ParaPro Test, plus ARIZ IVP clearance and RID/EIPA credentials.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (required).
• Associate degree or 60+ college credits, or ability to pass the ParaPro Test.
• Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.
• EIPA 3.5–3.9 or NAD 3 standard.
• RID CI/CT certification or equivalent.
• Proficiency in sign language (ASL or oral interpreting).
• Knowledge of RID Code of Ethics for educational interpreters.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreting and transliterating services for hearing impaired students.
• Uphold school rules, instructions, and regulations; follow Board policy and state rules.
• Assist in evaluating the appropriate method of interpreting for mainstream classes.
• Assist in classroom routines and guide students in completing work.
• Coordinate tutoring or follow-up sessions for additional instruction.
• Liaise between case managers and regular classroom teachers regarding student activities.
• Interpret for hearing impaired individuals in school programs and events.
• Refer questions concerning hearing impaired students to the appropriate case manager.
• Interpret during special activities (films, assemblies).
• Pursue ongoing professional growth as an educational interpreter.
