Job summary

Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind - ASDB is seeking an ASL/educational interpreter to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in Phoenix Metro classrooms. Travel may be required to interpreted educational settings as part of IEP services.

The role emphasizes interpreting for learners in educational environments, matching language with students, and collaborating with IEP teams to ensure access to instructional content.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Previous experience working with children or adults in educational settings.
• Associate degree or higher in Interpreting, American Sign Language, and/or Deaf Studies related field.
• Prior experience as an Educational Interpreter.
• Experience in an educational setting.
• Annual 12 hours of professional development is required by the agency's Educational Interpreters.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreting services in educational settings for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deaf-blind students according to IEPs.
• Match language use to students, peers, and instructors; interpret in class and incidental situations.
• Possibly participate as an IEP team member and coordinate with teachers and staff.
