Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an exam approved by the Hawaii State Department of Education (ParaPro or ParaPathways).
• At least 48 baccalaureate-level credits with 3 credits in mathematics and 3 in English OR an associate degree or higher.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs various academic, instruction-related support activities, tutors students in a specified aspect of knowledge as directed by the teacher, and observes and reports on student progress and difficulties.
• Independently provides social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities in school or community settings to enable independence; observes and reports on progress and suggests technique adjustments.
• Independently performs counseling support activities; develops rapport with students, encourages them to express problems, observes progress, and carries out approved activities to promote healthy self-concept and social skills.
• Independently provides articulation reinforcement lessons and drills to correct speech sounds as instructed by the speech pathologist; may receive training in speech therapy methods.
