Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking Educational Assistants I–III to provide paraprofessional support in classrooms and community settings. The roles include tutoring, social and daily living instruction for students with disabilities, counseling support, and speech articulation reinforcement under supervision.

Required qualifications include passing ParaPro/ParaPathways, at least 48 credits with math and English content, and an associate degree or higher.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of ParaPro or ParaPathways Assessment approved by Hawaii DOE.
• At least 48 baccalaureate-level credits including 3 credits in mathematics and 3 credits in English.
• An associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs various academic, instruction-related support activities, tutors students in a specified aspect of knowledge as directed by the teacher, and observes and reports on student progress and difficulties.
• Independently provides social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities in a school and/or community setting to enable them to function as independently as possible.
• Independently performs assigned counseling support activities. Develops rapport with students, encourages them to express their problems, observes and reports on student progress and difficulties, and carries out pre-approved activities with students which promote a healthy self-concept, develop social skills, and help provide early identification of special needs.
• Independently provides articulation reinforcement lessons and repetitive drills to correct/improve speech sounds as instructed and guided by the speech pathologist.
