Job summary

CHR Education Specialist is a full-time, 40-hour weekly role based in Manchester, CT, working Monday–Friday with daytime hours. The position focuses on delivering specialized educational support to individuals in substance use recovery, guiding them to identify and pursue educational goals within treatment and community settings.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus experience with substance use or co-occurring conditions and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in human services, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of two years working with individuals with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring mental health conditions; minimum six months in education, employment services, and/or psychosocial rehabilitation.
• Licensure/Certification: Valid driver’s license; Advocacy Unlimited Recovery Support Certification recommended.

Responsibilities

• Conducts assessments to identify educational needs.
• Collaborates with individuals to develop individualized, person-centered educational goals and plans and documents client progress.
• Uses motivational interventions and stage-wise approaches to help clients pursue their goals and progress along their paths to recovery.
• Establishes rapport with educational institutions and programs to develop a network for educational opportunities.
• Maintains documentation in compliance with agency and program standards.
• Participates in staff meetings, supervision, trainings and other meetings as assigned.
• Additional duties as required.
• Support individuals in linking with natural or community supports; develop crisis plans; provide instruction in education-related skills; develop relationships with educational programs.
