Education Specialist

The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Join our team!The CDD Information Network is seeking a full‑time Education Specialist to support the activities of the Information Network programs resources and training to include facilitating the collaboration of New Mexico stakeholders, identifying, prioritizing, and populating New Mexico‑specific content within multiple databases. The position's responsibilities include updating databases to maintain current information, developing educational materials for dissemination, collecting and reporting data, providing outreach, presentations and training to New Mexicans. The Education Specialist is responsible for responding to in‑person and telephone requests for information, to include certification in Information and Referral regarding disability‑related community resources. This position requires occasional statewide travel.

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Proficiency and experience in responding to requests for information regarding the navigation of consumer‑based federal and state disability programs, services, and resources, including knowledge of effective search strategies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in effectively communicating with a wide variety of constituency groups, including people with intellectual and physical disabilities and their families and caregivers, staff of state and non‑profit agencies, advocacy groups and policymakers.
  • Expertise working with content creation platforms, databases/data collection, research and reference, and software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and work both collaboratively and independently on detailed projects to accomplish program goals.
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities preferably in social services or in an educational setting.
  • Experience presenting and conducting live and online trainings to a wide audience. Proficiency in both speaking and writing.
  • Ability to speak and write in a second language commonly spoken in the state of New Mexico is a plus.

This position requires passing a background check and fingerprinting. This position requires occasional statewide travel.
