Position Summary

The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

The Autism Programs at the CDD has long supported families to respond to the needs of other family members based upon their lived experiences with a child with ASD. We have now begun to work to meet the needs of families experiencing other behavioral health challenges. As part of a University Center of Excellence, we subscribe to an individual and family centered approach in all of our work.

This part-time (.75fte) Health Education Consultant, with preference for a family member of an individual with ASD, will continue to support the dissemination of specialized information and resources as well as advocacy that is driven by the needs of individuals with ASD and other mental health diagnoses in NM. In addition, the successful candidate will have a unique role in the implementation of training and support for certified family peer support workers across the state in order to ensure that community-based advocacy and supports are available in New Mexico.Occasional travel is required with this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

A family member of an individual with Autism Spectrum disorder and/or other mental health diagnosis.

Experience with

  • development and implementation of family peer support services in NM;
  • current issues in children's mental health and Autism Spectrum Disorder;
  • family leadership and family driven care.

Knowledge of and experience with child and family serving systems in New Mexico.

Bilingual Spanish skills both verbal and written.

Additional Requirements

This position requires passing a background check with fingerprinting. This position requires occasional travel throughout New Mexico.
