Job summary

Children of Promise NYC (CPNYC) seeks an Education Specialist to coordinate after-school curricula for elementary to high school students. You will lead lesson planning, develop programs aligned with NYS/ NYC standards, and supervise staff to improve instructional quality.

You will serve as a liaison with schools, engage parents, teachers, and administrators, and manage records and reports while contributing to a diverse, supportive learning environment in Brooklyn and the Bronx locations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited university in Education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years expertise in curriculum development and implementation is required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years teaching at an elementary, middle, or high school is preferred.
  • High level of organization and ability to respond to difficult situations promptly with tact and diplomacy required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate clear, persuasive, and concise thoughts.
  • Proven track record of successful internal and external relationship management with the ability to propel connections towards mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in professional interaction with staff, the general public and community leaders.
  • Familiarity with developing lesson plans for after-school programs is preferred.
  • New York State Teaching credentials preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Salesforce entry and update of youth

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership through observation and training to program staff, Counselors and Tutors, with the necessary support, to improve their teaching and facilitation skills.
  • Create activity plans/lesson plans for staff and foster continuous quality improvement through effective supervision and personal development of educational programming.
  • Manage the implementation of academic components that support youths such as virtual learning, iReady and varying educational resources.
  • Source, develop, implement, and adjust curriculum and educational systems appropriate to current climate; ensure that structured lesson plans are aligned with NYS and NYC learning standards.
  • Manage and conduct staff meetings/trainings that reinforce classroom management expectations and CPNYC policies with the goal of developing each counselor we have on staff.
  • Provide individual academic assessments of program participants utilizing their report cards to identify strengths and weaknesses and determine academic goals and liaise with CPNYC program staff to identify and address students’ educational needs and challenges.
  • Serve as liaison between CPNYC and schools in CPNYC’s network.
  • Liaise with parents, teachers, and school administrators to identify and address students’ educational needs and challenges.
  • Respond to academic-related inquiries to neighboring schools, parents, and staff.
  • Manage the CPNYC afterschool incentive and rewards program while developing new ideas on how to improve it.
  • Identify external resources to enhance CPNYC’s education program elements such as homework help and academic tutoring.
  • Participate in Lead Counseling as necessary and virtual learning in building
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Manager to match youth; including tools on how to match youth with help needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely records for each participant according to CPNYC’s standards as well as synthesize and analyze data for reports. Provide reports as needed to the Vice-President of Programs using agency electronic CRM, Salesforce
  • Identify, evaluate, and propose solutions to program areas that need special attention
  • Manage the academic components and requirements of the DYCD Workscope as required by our funders
  • Other duties as assigned
