Responsibilities
Oversee the creation, development, and execution of editorial content across all platforms (digital and social media).
Develop and implement editorial strategies and guidelines that align with the organization's mission, vision, and goals.
Manage and direct a team of writers, editors, and other content creators to ensure timely delivery of high-quality content.
Edit and proofread all content for accuracy, grammar, style, and tone, ensuring it meets editorial standards and is consistent with the organization's brand.
Build and maintain relationships with external contributors and sources to ensure a steady flow of high-quality content.
Work closely with other departments, such as marketing and sales, to ensure alignment of content with business objectives.
Stay up-to-date on industry trends and developments, and incorporate them into the organization's content strategy.
Manage editorial budget and resources to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
Represent the organization in public settings, such as media events and conferences.
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including advertisers, subscribers, and industry influencers.
Ensure all articles meet industry standards for quality, including minimizing errors, fact-checking and verifying sources, checking for plagiarism and/or copyright infringement, etc. Zero retractions because of preventable factual errors is the standard. Spelling and grammar errors should be a rare exception.
Meet strategic goals as established by company leadership, to include KPMs with a focus on incremental audience growth.
Work with the social media and email manager to ensure We Are The Mighty’s stories are reaching the widest audience possible.
Work with developers to incorporate updates, as needed, into the design and functionality of the website.
Enforce a style guide and the publication’s standards and practices, and update as necessary.
Understand and implement SEO best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
7+ years of editorial experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership position.
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and inspire a team.
Strong understanding of the media industry, including digital media and social media.
Proven ability to develop and execute successful editorial strategies.
Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing tools.
Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
A passion for journalism, storytelling, and engaging content.
