Reuters is seeking an ambitious desk editor for our fast-paced, 24/7 Global News Desk. Join award-winning journalists in a globally recognized news organization committed to accuracy and fairness. Help us evolve digitally to stand out in covering business and world events.

The Editor, Global News Desk role is based in Singapore and Bangkok. We may consider exceptional candidates from other locations with Reuters offices. The position requires working some weekends and evenings.

We seek an experienced journalist skilled in crafting stories across geographies, industries, and markets—from scoops and breaking news to quick analyses. The role demands understanding our diverse audience, from financial clients to major media and digital publishers, and leading us to new readers.

This role involves experimenting with new formats and tools, editing copy, curating multimedia content, crafting sharp headlines and leads, and identifying story gaps for collaboration with news editors.

The ideal candidate writes precisely, conveying complex ideas clearly for both specialist and general audiences, while upholding Reuters’ standards of accuracy, brevity, fairness, and impartiality.

About the Role

As an Editor on the Global News Desk, you will:

1. Write and edit breaking news stories quickly and accurately.
2. Edit longer feature stories for a global audience over several days.
3. Ensure stories are balanced, include fair comment, and are visually engaging.
4. Collaborate with global colleagues.
5. Innovate in news production and storytelling formats.

About You

You are a suitable candidate if you:

• Have proven experience as a reporter or editor, with a preference for finance or business background.
• Can write and copyedit accurately and swiftly, including complex and sensitive stories.
• Possess digital and multimedia expertise, familiar with SEO, analytics, and audience needs.
• Can cover diverse topics for multiple audiences.
• Have strong news judgment, asking insightful questions and challenging assumptions.
• Remain calm under pressure and make quick, sound decisions.
• Exhibit good communication, teamwork, diplomacy, and collaboration skills.
• Experience editing newsletters is a plus.
