Reuters is looking for an ambitious Editor for our fast-paced, round-the-clock Global News Desk. Expect to work alongside award-winning journalists in a global news organisation long recognised for its commitment to accuracy and fairness. The role is based in Wellington, New Zealand, as we look to strengthen our editing team and support our existing bureau.
We're seeking an editor adept at crafting and honing stories that span geographies, industries, and markets; from scoops and breaking news to analyses and insights. The position requires understanding the needs of Reuters' diverse audience, which includes financial and professional clients, major media organisations, digital publishers, and general news consumers.
This role involves experimenting with new story formats and tools, working as a copy editor, and packaging content across various media including video, pictures, graphics, audio, and text. Sharp headlines, ledes, and nut paragraphs are essential. The ability to identify gaps in the story file and collaborate with news editors to fill them is also crucial. Familiarity with generative AI and other technological tools, in line with Reuters’ Trust Principles, is a strong advantage.
The ideal candidate writes with precision and can convey complex ideas for both specialist and general audiences, while maintaining Reuters' high standards for accuracy, brevity, clarity, fair comment, impartiality, and sourcing. Responsibilities include handling copy from the Americas region, particularly the United States; interest and experience in U.S. news are preferred.
