Job summary

Jefferson Regional is seeking a Security Officer for the Emergency Department, responsible for safeguarding patients, visitors, and staff. The role involves responding to emergencies, deescalating conflicts, and enforcing hospital policies within a dynamic ED setting.

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma (associate degree preferred), active police certification, firearm certification, and BLS/CPR.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical or Associate Degree in law enforcement, social science, physiology, or related fields preferred.
• BLS/CPR required upon hire or within 30 days of hire.
• Certified Police Officer with a valid law enforcement certification required.
• Firearm Certification required.
• This is a safety sensitive position.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and manage conflicts.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, and respond quickly to emergencies.
• Knowledge of safety, security, and patient confidentiality laws.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures, de-escalation techniques, and conflict resolution.
• Current and active police officer.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in law enforcement.
• Preferred: 1 year of supervisory experience in healthcare or similar settings.
• Knowledge of security operations and protocols in healthcare or hospital environments.
• Experience in hospital or healthcare security preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff in the ED.
• Respond to emergencies and maintain order in a fast-paced hospital setting.
• Enforce hospital policies and support during potentially volatile situations.
• Collaborate with hospital staff, local law enforcement, and emergency services.
