Ntmconline seeks a Patient Access Clerk to register inpatients and outpatients for hospital services, verify insurance, collect information, and explain billing procedures. This role reports to the ED Registration Supervisor and requires careful handling of confidential information.

The ideal candidate will have at least a high school diploma, strong English communication skills, and the ability to work calmly in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Prefers someone who has at least 6 months experience in a medical office or hospital setting.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients for hospital services from a physician's office and pre-admitting these patients as needed.
  • Admitting requirements for patients scheduled for admissions and outpatient procedures, obtaining authorization and verifying insurance eligibility.
  • Interview patients or their representative to obtain personal information or verify information already on file, including emergency numbers and insurance information.

  • Provide information to the patient/representative about billing, complaint process, patient rights, and HIPAA. Distributes hospital specific literature.
  • Collect payments when required and forward to the Business Office personnel.
  • Know hospital policies and be familiar with hospital services that are available.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization and ability to function in stressful situations.
  • Treats patients and families with respect and confidentiality of records.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
  • Maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departments.
  • Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Answer the telephone in a polite manner and communicate information to the appropriate personnel/family member.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Patient Access Supervisor.

Arranges for the efficient and orderly admission of inpatients and admission of individuals who have hospital-based outpatient testing or procedures. Ensures that the patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures. Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments. Reports to the ED Registration Supervisor.

  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of patients' records.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift 40lbs.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, or sit for long periods of time.
