Job summary

Scripps Health in La Jolla is seeking a Patient Service Specialist - ED to support the Access Services/ED team with registration, scheduling, and payment processing. You will greet patients, verify information, coordinate registration and insurance data, and collaborate with care teams to deliver a positive patient experience.

This role includes front-desk duties, patient communication, and coordination of services in a fast-paced ED setting. Weekend and holiday shifts are included.

Responsibilities

• Interacting with patients, payers, and providers to gather information for accurate registration, including assigning MRN, referrals/authorizations, point of service payment collection, document collection and arrival/check-in.
• Receiving and routing messages and handling customer billing and payment inquiries as needed.
• Managing patient check-in and check-out from start to finish, including identity verification, updating demographics and insurance information, ensuring forms are provided, signed, and witnessed, and verifying coverage and patient responsibility; preparing end-of-day reports as needed.
• Assisting patients with HPE eligibility, discussing payment arrangements including financial assistance information, and providing price estimates.
• Scheduling and re-scheduling patient appointments with proper documentation, authorizations, referrals, and routing of messages.
• Coordinating scheduling, meetings, travel planning needs, and department communication; assisting in gathering reports or statistics as needed.
• Maintaining a proactive customer-service approach by listening to patients, owning solutions, and involving leadership to resolve concerns.
• Acting as part of the patient-care team to support clinical staff in patient care.
