Job summary

Milk Education is partnering with several welcoming primary schools in Durham to recruit Early Career Teachers (ECTs) for September 2026 starts. We offer long-term, full-time roles with potential for permanent positions for the right candidate.

As an ECT, you will deliver high-quality lessons, build strong relationships with pupils and colleagues, and develop your classroom practice in a supportive school environment.

Qualifications

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • ECT status or newly qualified as a Primary Teacher.
  • Experience in primary teaching through placements or employment.
  • Strong understanding of the Primary curriculum.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willing to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with the Primary curriculum.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils.
  • Assess, monitor, and record pupil progress.
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants and the wider school team.
  • Develop effective classroom and behaviour management strategies.
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs.
  • Follow safeguarding and school policies at all times.

ECT Primary Teacher - Durham

Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Durham and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated Early Career Teachers (ECTs) to join schools from September 2026.

Whether you’re a newly qualified teacher looking to begin your career or an ECT looking to gain further classroom experience, we’d love to hear from you. We have a range of long-term, full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

You’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality teaching and learning, building positive relationships with pupils and developing your confidence and classroom practice within a supportive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Skills, Qualifications & Experience
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • ECT status or recently qualified as a Primary Teacher.
  • Primary school teaching experience through placements or employment.
  • Strong understanding of the Primary curriculum.
  • Passion for teaching and supporting children’s development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiastic, adaptable, and willing to develop your teaching practice.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
