Job summary

Highmark Health’s echocardiography lab is seeking an experienced technician to perform M-Mode, 2D real time, color flow, Doppler and stress echocardiograms, assist with transesophageal studies, and support pericardiocentesis when needed. You will obtain images, perform preliminary analysis, and ensure ICAEL standards are met.

Minimum requirement is an Associate’s degree or equivalent; RDCS/ARDMS certification preferred; CPR certification and PA driver’s license may be required; on-call or shift

Qualifications

• Minimum Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred 1 to 3 years’ experience performing echocardiograms.
• RDCS certification through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography may be required or ARDMS/ARRT certifications; eligible and must obtain certification within one year of hire; OJT certification within two years.

Responsibilities

• Positions patients and parameters to independently perform ultrasound imaging according to ICAEL protocol.
• Assists the cardiologist with the performance of TEE and stress imaging studies.
• Utilizes safety and infection prevention standards and performs quality control procedures; cleans equipment including TEE probes.
• Maintains adequate supplies for efficient department operations.
• Recognizes need for contrast imaging and may administer if trained and verified as competent.
• Operates the laboratory ultrasound systems and data entry for demographics and other information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
