Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks an Exceptional Children teacher assistant to support the assigned EC teacher and guide students toward achieving IEP goals. The position is on-site and involves working with EC students, assisting with instruction, materials, and classroom activities to ensure access to general education as needed.

Qualifications

• One year working with EC children preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to exceptional children.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and gymnasiums.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Discuss duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Instruct and monitor students in use of equipment to prevent injuries.
• Collect data to document progress toward IEP goals.
• Present subject matter to students under guidance of teachers.
• Assist with checking materials and portfolios, supervising, and testing as directed.
• Assist with attendance procedures, record keeping, and organizing spaces.
• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin boards, and demonstrations.
• Participate in daily bus, car, and van transportation duties.
• Assist during drills, field trips, and other school functions on and off campus.
• Provide physical assistance to students (self-help, toileting, feeding) as needed.
• Assist therapists and teachers with therapy-related duties.
• Write assignments or notes as directed by the teacher.
• Lift, position, and assist with wheelchair mobility as needed.
• Participate in professional development and other meetings.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
