Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support the assigned teacher and EC students. The role focuses on guiding students toward IEP goals and providing access to general education as needed, under principal direction.

Under general supervision, you will perform school-based tasks and collaborate with teachers to implement instructional plans. This position requires initiative, reliability, and strong communication within a team-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to exceptional children.
• Ability to use current technology and alternate communications for disabilities.
• Knowledge of classroom management and differentiation techniques.
• Knowledge of IEP processes, strategies, and related assessments.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and gymnasiums.
• Enforce school policies and rules for student conduct.
• Coordinate duties with the classroom teacher to support instruction.
• Provide physical assistance as needed to students and equipment.
