Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant for the Exceptional Children's Program. The role supports EC students under supervision, assisting with instruction and implementing IEP goals on a daily basis.

The position involves supervising students across classrooms, coordinating with teachers, and contributing to classroom learning activities on and off campus. Immediate starting date with full-time status during a 9-month schedule.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher education equivalent required or equivalent work experience.
• WorkKeys and 96 hours of in-service training accepted as alternative.
• Completion of NC Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program required or preferred.
• One year experience with EC children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laws, policies, and procedures governing students.
• Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and gymnasiums.
• Coordinate duties with the classroom teacher to support instruction.
• Provide physical assistance and monitor care as needed.
• Document progress toward IEP goals and maintain records.
• Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Participate in transportation duties and school activities.
• Engage in professional development and other meetings.
