Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks an enthusiastic EC teacher assistant to support a classroom led by an exceptional children teacher. Under supervision, you will assist with instruction, monitor progress toward IEP goals, and help students access general education.

This on-site, 9-month position requires an associate degree or equivalent, dependable transport, and ability to work with diverse learners. Training provided; collaboration with teachers and therapists is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher completed.
• Two years of college (48 credit hours) completed.
• Pass WorkKeys and 96 hours of in-service training.
• Completion of the NC Department of Labor (DOL) Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program.
• One year working with EC children preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Discuss assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Provide physical assistance to students as needed in self-help, toileting, dressing, and feeding.
• Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
