Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time phlebotomist in Sherman, IL, who will perform venipuncture, collect specimens from patients of all ages, and ensure proper labeling and handling for testing. The role includes data entry, telephone support, and assistance with inventory. Requires basic computer skills and excellent communication.

Position offers day shifts with starting times between 4–6 am, benefits eligibility, and opportunities to advance within a large health system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; good listening skills.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification to ensure patient safety.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Obtains specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times; ensures completion.
• Labels specimens and resolves identification/requisition problems.
• Answers and screens telephone calls; assists with inventory and supplies.
• Accepts specimens from various internal and external customers; responds to requests.
• Orders and verifies test requests; documents information for QA/Im
• Reviews pending and management reports; distributes reports.
• Assists in Billing and other business functions.
• Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and data entry.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide care appropriate to patient age.
