Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred in some states.
• Excellent phlebotomy skills including pediatric and geriatric collections.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment.
• Flexibility to cover weekends and on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups.
• Label and process specimens accurately according to protocol.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas.
• Data entry and processing of specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required.
• Perform clerical duties such as data entry, inventory, stocking supplies, and answering phones.
• Read, understand and comply with departmental policies and safety manuals; ensure staff follow instructions.
• Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times.
• Maintain phlebotomy logs and complete data entry of patient registrations and test orders.
• Collaborate with nursing staff and lab personnel; participate in special projects and training.
