Job summary

Save the Children is seeking Program Aides to provide educational, relational, and social experiences for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers within Head Start programs across sites. You will report to the Education and Inclusion Manager or Center Director and may travel to program sites or for home visits.

You will assist with classroom activities, supervise meals and daily routines, and help maintain safety and program quality in accordance with Head Start standards.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Certification as applicable by Head Start or childcare regulations.
• Within 90 days of employment, obtain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool children.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to relate with children and to work with staff, parents and families.
• Proven ability to follow directions and take initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to keep information on families confidential.
• Demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Apply clear practice and procedure in day-to-day execution of job.
• Organize self and manage time to get things done.
• Keep manager informed of important issues.
• Build effective relationships within workgroup and with children/families.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Assist classroom staff in all classroom activities.
• Assist the Teacher in any aspect of the program as needed.
• Serve as a temporary substitute in the absence of the Assistant Teacher or Teacher.
• Provide custodial support as needed; sweep, mop, vacuum, clean bathrooms.
• Prepare food and serve items; comply with hygiene standards.
• Participate in food service tasks and substitute for cooks as needed.
• Be familiar with Head Start standards and local licensing regulations.
• Attend workshops and meetings; participate in required staff and parent meetings.
• Maintain confidentiality of families and staff.
