Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Special Education Certification or in process, with SA or ZA endorsement preferred.
- Must meet the Highly Qualified standard under the ESSA OR be recommended for a certificate or endorsement, signifying full approval in a special education area by an institution of higher education, as approved by the state board of education.
- Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for assisting with lifting and moving students up to 26 years of age; including repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting (up to 40 lbs), walking, kneeling, and reaching, while maintaining personal balance and stability; implementing behavior intervention plans and performing essential job duties.
Essential Duties
- Develop Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance, measurable goals and objectives, and behavior plans.
- Experience teaching the use of AAC devices.
- Assess students' achievement and develop instructional strategies to meet individual educational needs.
- Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and strategies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program Team (IEP) meetings, and prepare reports and plans in collaboration with a team including parents.
- Implement health care procedures as per administrative procedures.
- Coordinate and implement behavior intervention plans according to district policy and regulations.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with parents, staff, and community services agencies.
- Collaborate with general education staff to foster inclusion opportunities for students with IEPs.
- Maintain effective communication with parents and staff, and document student progress.
- Prepare and implement daily lesson plans aligned with each student's IEP.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service activities, and school improvement teams.
Salary
Placement according to the current Teacher's Master Agreement.
