About the Team

The Virtual Preparatory Academy of Washington is a K-12 tuition-free online public school in Washington. We empower students to learn in ways that suit them using innovative technology, at their proper level, and at their own pace.

We seek teachers eager to create a rigorous and nurturing environment that prioritizes student learning and social-emotional development. While instruction is primarily virtual, travel and face-to-face attendance are required several times per year for state testing and student events.

The Virtual Special Education Teacher supports students' educational and behavioral goals, focusing on those with an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Eligibility: Open to residents of Washington

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Implement and write IEPs for students.
  2. Participate in MTSS and maintain student records.
  3. Complete paperwork and progress reports timely.
  4. Conduct 1:1, small group, and whole class sessions.
  5. Administer assessments, write lesson plans, and teach curriculum.
  6. Attend IEP and other meetings.
  7. Prepare and administer standardized tests.
  8. Collaborate with staff and communicate with parents and professionals.
  9. Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate records.
  10. Engage in professional development.

About You

  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Current Washington certification/licensure.
  • Residence in Washington.
  • Three years of teaching experience, including special education preferred.
  • Strong content knowledge and familiarity with state testing standards.
  • Understanding of MTSS and experience working with diverse students.
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for teaching.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and IDEA compliance software.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and work occasional evenings.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally and in-state.
  • Ability to pass background checks.
  • Knowledge of co-teaching models.
