Job summary

Coast Guard Exchange (USCGCSC) in Cape May, NJ seeks a Child Care Assistant for the Child Development Center. This position is intermittent/part-time (0-19 hrs per week) with a pay rate of $19.10 per hour. The role involves supporting early childhood education, implementing curriculum, and ensuring child safety and well-being.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, English proficiency, and experience with children. Preferred education beyond high school is encouraged.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Read, write and speak English fluently.
• Minimum 1 year experience with children in group settings.
• Ability to lift up to 45 pounds and perform active caregiving tasks.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute early childhood education experiences.
• Develop age-appropriate curriculum with staff.
• Maintain a safe, structured program environment for children.
• Lead planned activities and monitor participant progress.
• Interact with children/youth using approved development techniques.
• Maintain daily reports and program participation data.
• Prepare and arrange indoor/outdoor activity areas.
• Ensure safety and well-being of children at all times.
• Assist with snacks/meals and health checks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
