Job summary

U.S. Coast Guard Community Services Command is seeking a Child Care Assistant at the Cape May, NJ location. This intermittent, part-time role supports the Child Development Center with early childhood activities and supervision.

Responsibilities include implementing age-appropriate curricula, maintaining child safety, and coordinating with staff for daily reports and care tasks. Applicants must meet basic education and suitability requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• One year of general experience working with children.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds and perform routine activities indoors/outdoors.
• Tier 1 background investigation and Civilian Medical Clearance every 2 years for childcare roles.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement early childhood education activities.
• Collaborate with director and teachers on curriculum and activities.
• Create a program environment that promotes positive interactions.
• Lead planned activities for program participants.
• Interact with children/youth using approved guidance techniques.
• Maintain participation data and daily reports.
• Ensure safe supervision in classroom, playground, and transit areas.
• Assist with snacks/meals and overall care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
