Job summary

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians seeks an Assistant Teacher to support a quality early childhood classroom, aligned with federal, state, and tribal guidelines.

You will assist the Teacher in daily activities, maintain portfolios, and communicate with families about their child’s development. Responsibilities include supervision, classroom sanitation, implementing lesson plans, and collaborating to meet IEP/IFSP needs.

Qualifications

• Education: CDA credential or state-approved certificate meeting CDA requirements.
• Must be enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor children for safety at all times.
• Assist with daily care, classroom management, and sanitation.
• Prepare classroom activities aligned with reading, writing, math and other areas.
• Assist in implementation of early childhood experiences following lesson plans.
• Instruct individuals or groups to reinforce learning concepts.
• Record daily observations and maintain Individual Child Portfolios.
• Support program requirements and deadlines.
• Monitor and implement behavior plans as directed.
• Assist in meeting IEP/IFSP needs for special needs children.
• Communicate with families daily about child activities and well-being.
• Oversee meals and model appropriate nutrition and table manners.
