Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Mechanical Engineer for the Richmond, VA office to begin in Summer 2027. You will assist the Property & Buildings Team with the design, development, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems across infrastructure and building projects.

You will collect data from site surveys, blueprints, and drawings, perform basic analyses, and help prepare documentation. This role supports safety, quality, and project execution standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with design/build concepts.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, codes, and compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, collect and analyze data from site, drawings, and reports for project development.
  • Perform basic mechanical engineering work related to research and inspections of site conditions.
  • Provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and load calculations.
  • Verify site characteristics and offer technical assistance on design and construction issues.
  • Generate documentation and specifications using electronic systems and field logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site procedures.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Adhere to code of conduct and policies; manage resources responsibly.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed by business needs.
