Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Washington state’s Longview mill seeks a Staff E&I Reliability Engineer to plan and execute programs that enhance the reliability of electrical and instrumentation systems. You will support daily operations and annual shutdowns as the instrumentation SME.

You will lead upgrades, manage PdM strategies, review power studies, ensure NEC/OSHA compliance, and provide technical direction to maintenance teams to keep the mill running safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering preferred or equivalent with 10–15 years of industrial E&I maintenance and project experience.
• Strong leadership and an uncompromising commitment to worker safety, regulatory compliance, and quality.
• Proven ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects with budgeting and scheduling.
• PdM & Criticality Expert: design, implement, and manage PdM strategies and mill criticality rankings.

Responsibilities

• Lead system upgrades, migrations, modernization initiatives, and automation projects while supporting engineering and troubleshooting of industrial electrical systems.
• Review and interpret power studies including arc flash, relay coordination, load flow, and short circuit analyses.
• Coordinate field installation, testing, energization, and commissioning with stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and related regulations.
• Oversee reliability programs from conception to implementation using Honeywell, Emerson, ABB, and Rockwell equipment.
• Provide technical direction to maintenance and operating teams to ensure seamless mill operations.
• Drive maintenance strategies and PdM program design and implementation.
• Optimize system performance with predictive and preventive maintenance to prevent production impact.
• Champion safety and environmental standards within the mill.
