Smurfit Westrock in Demopolis, AL, seeks an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to maintain and improve mill reliability. You will troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, install and optimize distribution equipment, and partner with operations and maintenance teams to minimize downtime.

You will work with PLC/DCS/VFD systems, ensure safety and environmental standards, and contribute to ongoing efficiency gains and cost improvements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, and process control equipment.
• Ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and technical manuals.
• Working knowledge of motor controls, control valves, transmitters, instrumentation, and electrical distribution systems.
• Experience using electrical testing and calibration equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Ability to safely work around mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and callouts as needed.
• Commitment to safety and compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Responsabilités

• Utilize and maintain PLC, DCS, VFD, and related automation systems to ensure efficient process performance.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, quality, and company standards while performing maintenance activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that enhance equipment performance, reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.

What You Need to Succeed

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical diploma, or vocational training in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
• Industrial maintenance experience in a pulp and paper, chemical processing, manufacturing, or continuous-process environment.
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining PLC-based control systems.
• Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), process instrumentation, and automation equipment.
• Experience maintaining Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), motor control centers (MCCs), and electrical distribution equipment.
• Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent industrial electrical training.
• Experience with predictive and preventive maintenance programs.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety practices and lockout/tagout procedures.
