Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Demopolis, AL, seeks an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to maintain and improve mill reliability. You will troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, install and optimize distribution equipment, and partner with operations and maintenance teams to minimize downtime.

You will work with PLC/DCS/VFD systems, ensure safety and environmental standards, and contribute to ongoing efficiency gains and cost improvements.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Demonstrated knowledge of industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, and process control equipment.
Ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and technical manuals.
Working knowledge of motor controls, control valves, transmitters, instrumentation, and electrical distribution systems.
Experience using electrical testing and calibration equipment.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Ability to safely work around mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and callouts as needed.

Responsibilities

Maintain and troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and process control systems to support safe and reliable mill operations.
Install, repair, and optimize electrical distribution equipment, motors, controls, and instrumentation across the facility.
Support operational reliability by identifying root causes of equipment issues and implementing effective corrective actions.
Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and reliability teams to plan and execute maintenance activities that minimize downtime.
Utilize and maintain PLC, DCS, VFD, and related automation systems to ensure efficient process performance.
Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, quality, and company standards while performing maintenance activities.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that enhance equipment performance, reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
