Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide small group instruction for students with dyslexia services.
  • Assist in the implementation of a compliant dyslexia program.
  • Collaborate to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students.
  • Provide resources and training to staff and parents regarding dyslexia instruction.
  • Collaborate to develop IEPs through ARD meetings.
  • Attend ARD/IEP meetings and set goals for dyslexia services.
  • Work with teachers to accommodate curricula for dyslexia students.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement.
  • Compile and file reports and documents required.
  • Liaise with principals, teachers, staff, parents and community.
  • Stay current on laws and mandates in Dyslexia, 504 and Special Education.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Provides small group instruction for students identified to receive dyslexia services. Assist assigned campuses in the implementation and maintenance of a compliant dyslexia program which meets federal and state laws and mandates regarding dyslexia student identification, placement, and instruction.
  • Actively engage students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that meet the needs of individual learners with dyslexia
  • Assist classroom teachers by identifying and providing appropriate reading interventions for students who are not reading on grade level.
  • Provide resources and training to school staff and parents regarding dyslexia instruction and identification in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD). Committee process for each student receiving Dyslexia programming services.
  • Conduct, attend, and participate in ARD/IEP committee meetings and provide goals and objectives for students needing Dyslexia programming services.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to accommodate curricula as needed for dyslexia students according to guidelines established in the Texas Dyslexia.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Serve as a liaison by maintaining a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents and community members.
  • Remain current on new laws, policies, and compliance issues in the areas of Dyslexia,
  • 504 and Special Education at assigned campuses.
  • Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Education or related field.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate with required endorsements for subject and subject level assigned required.
  • 3-5 years of direct experience in working with/teaching children with learning difference required.
  • Dyslexia Practitioner or Dyslexia Therapist preferred.
  • Special Education certification strongly preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about federal and state laws and mandates regarding dyslexia student identification, placement, and instruction.
  • Knowledgeable about district procedures regarding evaluation and identification of dyslexia.
  • Ability to work independently to serve multiple campuses as assigned.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teacher, parents, and administrators.
  • Ability to work with various kinds of technology.
  • Experience working with/teaching children with learning differences.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
  • Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.
