Job summary

Cedar Rapids Community School District is seeking a Permanent Building Substitute Teacher for the 2026-27 school year at Van Buren Elementary in Cedar Rapids, IA. The role is full-time (5 days, 40 hours per week) with a $25.00/hour pay rate.

The ideal candidate will have a valid Iowa substitute authorization or teaching license and be registered with SubCentral. Assigned to multiple grade levels as needed, you’ll support student learning and adhere to district policies and routines.

Qualifications

• Must be an approved substitute teacher registered through the SubCentral assignment system.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction and maintain classroom routines using teacher-provided lesson plans.
• Manage classroom behavior and create a safe learning environment.
• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds and during school events.
• Follow district policies including safety and emergency procedures.
• Collaborate with staff to support student learning and building initiatives.
• Fill in for various grades and content areas with short notice.
