Job summary

Fresenius Medical Care is seeking a patient care support role in the inpatient hemodialysis setting. You will assist the Hemodialysis RN in delivering safe dialysis therapy, maintaining a clean environment, and following FMCNA policies and regulatory guidelines.

Primary duties include equipment setup, patient monitoring, accurate documentation, and collaboration with the care team to ensure quality and safety in patient treatments.

Qualifications

• CMS-approved state and/or national certification within the required state timeline.
• Effective communication skills – both verbal and written.
• Ishihara color blindness test is a condition of employment; accommodations possible.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under the direct supervision of the Hemodialysis Registered Nurse for assigned patient(s) in the dialysis suite in the acute setting.
• Report and document all new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN.
• Promote and assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment and participate in QEP/QAI activities.
• Set up and prime equipment as directed by the Fresenius Nurse for renal replacement therapies.
• Ensure dialysis machines are set up, tested, and safe for treatment per instructions and policy.
• Welcome patients, check on their well-being, and report concerns to the FMCNA RN.
• Obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings.
• Report difficulties in cannulation to FMCNA RN as required; or unusual findings.
• Accurately document patient treatment information in EMS and ACES.
• Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, and UF modeling.
• Ensure safety alarms are enabled (NVL 160) and related safety checks.
• Collect and label specimens; deliver to laboratory per policy.
• Evaluate intradialytic problems and intervene as ordered; monitor patient response and report findings.
• Obtain vital signs before reinfusion and document accordingly; report changes.
• Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access and discharge; report any unusual findings.
• Review and comply with Code of Business Conduct and applicable policies and laws.
• Assist with various projects as assigned by supervisor or supervising RN.
• Other duties as assigned.
