Job summary

Mead School District seeks an Assistant 8th Grade Volleyball coach for Highland Middle School in Spokane, Washington, for Fall 2026-27. This 1.0 position focuses on developing student-athletes’ skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork within a supportive school program.

The coach will lead practices from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and collaborate with school staff to promote physical well-being and character development in a positive educational setting.

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes regarding the techniques, rules, and safety practices of the sport.
• Develops and organizes a practice program. Schedule and conduct practices according to agreed-upon schedules. Practice time for each sport is 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Supervise athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, knowing where all participants are at all times.
• Supervise athletes during activities in connection with athletic events, including practices, games, camps, and travel.
• Promote the school's entire interscholastic program and direct the program in harmony with the overall school program.
• Set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct, including respecting and supporting contest officials.
• Foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community.
• Promote a healthy lifestyle to student-athletes.
• Ensure that all athletes have completed and submitted all required documentation, including the medical insurance coverage form, and have undergone and passed any required medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
• Communicate with parents regarding team rules and athletic department guidelines.
• Confer with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance and/or conduct of their student.
• Know and understand the student-athlete handbook.
• Follow state, conference, and district regulations governing the athletic program
• Adhere to all safety laws and district policies.
