Mt Spokane High School – Wildcat Volleyball JV Head Coach, Fall 2026–2027.

JOB SUMMARY: Provide knowledge, motivation, and leadership so students can reach their full potential in a competitive environment that supports physical well‑being, moral character, and social and mental development.

Essential Functions of All Coaches
  • Instruct athletes on techniques, rules, and safety practices of the sport.
  • Develop and organize practice programs and schedule practices from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Supervise athletes from the beginning of practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, ensuring all participants are accounted for.
  • Supervise athletes during activities related to athletic events, including practices, games, camps, and travel.
  • Promote the interscholastic program in harmony with the total school program.
  • Model ethical and moral conduct and respect contest officials.
  • Encourage sportsmanship, pride in self, team, school, and community.
  • Advocate a healthy lifestyle for student‑athletes.
  • Ensure all athletes complete required documentation, including medical insurance coverage forms and required physical examinations before the regular practice season.
  • Communicate with parents about team rules and athletic department guidelines.
  • Consult with parents or guardians as needed regarding performance or conduct.
  • Know and apply the student‑athlete handbook.
  • Follow state, conference, and district regulations governing athletics.
  • Adhere to safety laws and district policies.
  • Follow injury care and prevention procedures per Mead School District policies.
  • Submit accident reports for injuries to the principal or designated officer.
  • Recognize and honor athlete health plans.
  • Provide equal opportunities to all athletes per the nondiscrimination policy.
  • Complete WIAA general rules clinic and sport‑specific rule clinic annually.
  • Hold current First Aid/CPR certifications.
  • Participate in trainings required by the District and the WIAA.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by District Administrators or the Athletic Director.
Additional Essential Functions if Head Coach
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director on practice and competition scheduling.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in selecting and evaluating assistant coaches.
  • Assign duties to assistant coaches as necessary.
  • Determine athlete participation and playing time in conjunction with assistant coaches.
  • Maintain standards of pupil behavior and supervise athletes at all times.
  • Ensure lists of all eligible players are prepared per district policies.
  • Communicate with AD and Building Administration on athlete‑related topics.
Qualifications
  • Must be 19 years or older for Assistant Coach; 21 years or older for Head Coach.
  • Must possess current First Aid/CPR certification or obtain it by season start.
  • Type II Driver’s License preferred.
  • Understand the sport’s safety practices, techniques, rules, and skill‑development progression.
Essential Criteria
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and ability to motivate them to develop a successful program.
  • Consistently meet schedule responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.
  • Plan practices and events, organizing materials and personnel to carry out the activity.
  • Collaborate with students, colleagues, parents, and officials in a positive, professional, and equitable manner.
Desired Criteria
  • Previous coaching experience at the Secondary level.
Terms of Employment and Salary

The salary range for High School Volleyball JV Head Coaches is $3,947 to $6,868 per contract. Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long‑Term Disability, provided through the School Employee Benefits Board.
