Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA seeks a Dry Dock Supervisor to oversee dry dock operations, ballast control, and crew coordination. Hours 0600-1445; no clearance required.

Responsibilities include interpreting Dry Dock Engineered drawings, planning manpower, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time delivery, and maintaining policies across the Waterfront Services department. Must have strong leadership, experience in ship repair, and the ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor shipyard

Qualifications

• BA/BS in a related field with 2 years related experience or AA/AS with 4 years related experience or 8 years directly related ship repair experience.
• Experience preferred in supervisorial roles and dry dock operations.
• Regular, reliable on-site attendance is essential.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand ship repair specifications.
• Strong leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• On-site deck-plate leader coordinating a crew of typically 8-15 mechanics/electricians to ensure safety, quality, schedule and cost control.
• Interpret Dry Dock Engineered drawings and oversee construction of ship support blocking systems.
• Plan and project manpower requirements, and communicate resources to the Foreman.
• Assign workers to maximize efficiency and monitor progress against schedule.
• Review schedules and communicate progress to the Assistant Dockmaster.
• Inspect each completed job for quality and adherence to standards.
• Coordinate with other shops to meet goals and resolve issues.
• Develop daily work assignments and maintain a safe work environment.
