Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead and mentor a team of developers in a fast-paced Agile environment.

You will oversee software plans, designs, and testing for UAV-related products, applying expert-level knowledge to resolve complex design issues and drive innovation. The role requires deep knowledge of software lifecycles, OOD, and multiple languages, with a strong emphasis on collaboration across teams and delivering high-quality code on schedule.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or Physics is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Minimum 15+ years of relevant experience in Windows or Linux application software development; OOD required.
• Familiar with SDLC, STLC, design patterns, and version control.
• Experience with Agile software development process management and CI/CD tools.
• Willingness to travel locally (Occasionally).

Responsibilities

• Define software lifecycle development process and requirements.
• Supervise and oversee technical software development in support of programs.
• Lead design reviews and create software design documentation.
• Ensure coding standards and on-time delivery within budget.
• Derive architecture and algorithms from requirements; mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate across multiple teams and report to senior management.
