Job summary

Werner Enterprises is seeking a Safety Specialist based in Joliet, IL. The role focuses on delivering safety training, performing DOT compliance reviews, and supporting drivers with guidance and evaluations.

The position requires strong classroom delivery, organizational skills, and knowledge of safety regulations. The candidate will conduct vehicle inspections, participate in on‑call safety coverage, and collaborate with the Safety Department to uphold company standards and regulatory

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• College preferred.
• Public speaking and/or adult education experience.
• Transportation Safety experience and CDLA preferred.
• 1–2 years of Safety Specialist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct all Safety Department training courses, including simulator training.
• Perform Safety-related functions including accident reviews and remedial log training.
• Perform drug and Breath Alcohol Tests (BAT).
• Knowledgeable in AS-400, Microsoft Office, CBT systems, and simulators.
• Provide 24-hour on-call support to the Safety Department as needed.
• Counsel drivers for DOT violations and company policy.
• Conduct road tests and evaluations to ensure safety and compliance.
• Perform pre-trip inspections and related duties.
