Job summary

Kentucky River Foothills Development Council is seeking a dedicated Driver/Operator to transport passengers per daily schedules. You will communicate with dispatch, assist passengers, and help with safety restraints and mobility devices.

The role requires a high school diploma (preferred), a valid Kentucky license, and the ability to pass drug tests. Prior passenger transport experience is a plus, with opportunities for on-call work and training.

Qualifications

  • Valid Kentucky Driver’s License; 18+ years old.
  • Experience in passenger transportation is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate agency vehicle safely and courteously according to schedules and dispatcher requests.
  • Assist passengers including fastening seat belts and wheelchair restraints.
  • Assist disabled passengers and mobility aids as needed.
  • Complete daily pre-trip, manifests, and fuel reports.
  • Inspect vehicle and report maintenance issues to Fleet Manager.
  • Handle emergencies calmly per agency policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles and report accidents immediately.

Job description

Summary: Foothills Express Driver/Operator transports passengers utilizing the agency’s transportation system to various destinations as requested.Essential Duties:Operate agency vehicle in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner to destinations as directed by daily schedules and dispatcher/office staff requests.Communicate via manifests, tablet, and telephone in a safe and courteous manner.Provide assistance to passengers as necessary including fastening safety belts and wheelchair restraints, entering/exiting vehicles.When necessary, assist disabled passengers and individuals with wheelchairs or other mobility aids.Accurately complete daily vehicle pre-trip, daily manifests, and fuel reports.Inspect vehicle daily and report any maintenance issues to Fleet Manager. Complete requisite paperwork regarding preventive maintenance checks and pre-trip reports.Inform office personnel of passenger issues, changes in billing information, and ALL vehicle incidents and accidents as required and fill out proper paperwork.Report any accidents immediately to dispatch and the Operations Manager and/or Director.Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal transportation regulations relating to vehicle operation and safety-sensitive employees.Provide on-call and/or after-hours services when assigned to do so.Attend all mandatory/applicable training sessions (i.e. First Aid/CPR, Passenger Assistance, Bloodborne Pathogen), employee meetings, etc.Handle any emergency in a calm and professional manner in accordance with agency policies.Maintain the interior and exterior cleanliness of assigned vehicles.Participates in program and/or agency fund-raising activities as directed by supervisor.Submit to pre-employment and random drug tests.Perform other duties as assigned.Education, Experience, and Training:High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Employees must have basic reading, writing and math skills. Upon employment, Driver/Operator must agree to regular training including but not limited to passenger assistance, first aid/CPR, defensive driving, and bloodborne pathogens.Physical Demands:Upon offer of employment, candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen and agree to be part of the Agency and state Department of Transportation (DOT) random drug testing pools. Also, all employees must submit to random drug tests when necessary. Upon offer all prospective employees must submit to a pre-employment record check for driving and criminal history. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The Driver/Operator must have the ability to exert force frequently to lift, carry, or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds. Driver/Operator must be able to push/pull a minimum of 150 pounds.While operating any vehicle of the Kentucky River Foothills Transportation Department fleet, seasonal heat, cold, or adverse weather conditions might be experienced during the process of loading and unloading passengers, and while performing pre/post-trip inspections. Exposure to fumes, dust odors, petroleum products and ambient noise will also occur during the workday. Additionally, you might experience difficult traffic environments and interaction with dissatisfied patrons, which must be dealt with in a positive manner. Lastly, exposure to bloodborne pathogens may occur.Other Requirements:Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid Kentucky Driver’s License. Applicants/employees must have a clean driving record. A Commercial Driver’s License may be required for the operation of some vehicles. Individuals must have knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and safety procedures. All drivers must have excellent map reading ability and sufficient knowledge of local streets, roads, and highways. Experience in passenger transportation is preferred, but not required. Drivers must maintain a high level of professionalism, demonstrated by a positive attitude, ability to function as a team member and a commitment to the overall mission of the agency. All drivers must have flexibility and willingness to changes in schedule and duties as needed according to staff availability.
