Operates a bus or sedan in providing transportation to John Knox Village residents, under the immediate supervision of the Public Safety Supervisor and/or the Dispatcher who acts as communications link for the Director of Public Safety. Essential Job Functions
- Drives bus to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedule. Keeps passenger safety a top priority at all times.
- Assists passengers with getting into or out of vehicle and assists with baggage.
- Regulates heating, lighting and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
- Complies with local traffic regulation and safety precautions for passengers.
- Reports delays, accidents and traffic violations.
- Inspect bus and maintain proper levels of gas, oil and water before departure.
- May load or unload baggage or express checked by passengers in baggage compartment.
- Transports and secures passengers luggage, groceries and wheelchair.
- Spends a majority of the day driving a sedan or a bus.
- Keeps vehicle clean inside and out.
- Must have excellent customer service and listening skills.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
- Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
Essential Qualifications
Education:
- This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED.
Licenses/Certifications
- Must have a valid MO Class E (or higher) driver’s license at time of hire.
- Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug screen and maintain a D.O.T. medical card.
Knowledge And Skills (required Unless Otherwise Noted)
- Prior commercial driving experience preferred.
- Beginner level Microsoft Office software knowledge (Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook) required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Handles stress well, gets along with others and maintains acceptable standards of conduct.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- The associate may be required to interact with individuals with challenged mental capacities.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- The associate is exposed to varying degrees of temperature extremes, particularly outdoors. Activities occur inside and outside.
- All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

- Heavy Work – The driver’s physical demands include maximum occasional lift of 23 lbs from floor to 50 in; maximum occasional carry of 23 lbs for 50 ft; maximum occasional horizontal push/pull force of 40 lbs for 10 feet; maximum occasional vertical push force of 55 lbs at 24 in; maximum frequent grip of 20 lbs; maximum occasional climb of 12 in; maximum occasional forward reach of 55 in; maximum occasional overhead reach of 66 in; maximum frequent lateral reach of 48 in; occasional bending, rouching, kneeling, frequent neck rotation; continuous hand coordination; occasional fine motor coordination; continuous food coordination; occasion st standing and walking; continuous sitting.
- The associate is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, wet or slippery surfaces.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, making discriminations in sound.

Reports to the Public Safety Supervisor. Takes work direction from Lead Transportation and Dispatcher.
