Job summary

South Dakota State Government is seeking a One Stop Supervisor for the Driver Licensing Program in Sioux Falls. This full-time position oversees the largest exam station in the state, directing at least 10 employees, interviewing and selecting staff, and delivering training while handling performance evaluations.

Ideal candidates will have supervisory experience, strong planning and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with the public.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Sioux Falls exam station and supervise at least 10 staff.
  • Interview and select staff; provide training and address disciplinary issues.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and ensure quality customer service.
  • Prepare and deliver trainings and presentations; respond to public inquiries.
  • Occasional statewide travel and attendance at out-of-state conferences.

The Department of Public Safety, Driver Licensing Program, is looking for a professional, adaptable, customer service-oriented individual to fill our Sioux Falls One Stop Supervisor position. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position that oversees the largest exam station in the state. This includes directing the work of at least 10 employees, interviewing and selecting staff, providing training, addressing disciplinary issues and completing performance evaluations.

This position has substantial contact with the public, addresses customer complaints and conducts driver re-evaluation examinations on drivers who may no longer be safe to drive. Preparation and delivery of presentations/training in public forums and employee training will be required. There will be occasional overnight travel within the state and travel to out-of-state conferences. Candidates should have previous leadership or supervisory experience, good planning and organization skills, and work well as part of a team.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Knowledge of:
  • U.S. and international identification and licensing documents;
  • federal and state commercial and non-commercial motor vehicle laws, rules, and regulations;
  • department driver licensing policies and procedures;
  • investigation techniques and common medical terminology;
  • computer operations; and
  • effective methods of supervision.
Skill to:
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to:
  • supervise employees in central and remote locations;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public;
  • lift and carry 60 to 70 pounds of equipment;
  • employ effective positive persuasion techniques to obtain desired outcomes;
  • organize multiple activities and meet deadlines;
  • be familiar with Microsoft Office suite;
  • communicate information clearly and concisely;
  • operate driver license processing equipment; and
  • remain calm during stressful situations and react to emergencies quickly.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
