Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Transportation, seeks a Driver License Examiner to guide applicants through testing, review documents, and issue licenses.

This full-time position requires a PA non-commercial Class C license, 21 years old, and the ability to obtain an unrestricted Class M license within six months. Work schedule is Tue–Sat, 8:15 AM–4:45 PM; telework is not available. A background check is required.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant or two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
• Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License and must be at least 21 years old at the time of application.
• No suspensions or revocations of driver’s license in the five years preceding employment; must obtain an unrestricted Class M license within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate applicants’ physical qualifications and review vehicles and vision tests for compliance.
• Administer knowledge and skills examinations for non-commercial and commercial applicants.
• Verify identity documents and residency materials for authenticity.
• Use databases to confirm identity and detect fraud or improper documentation.
• Process test results and issue driver licenses or IDs to eligible applicants.
• Assist with audits of Third Party Examiners and CDL test sites for contract compliance.
