Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver Education Training School Compliance Officer (DETSCO) to oversee non-commercial and commercial driver education schools in the Eastern NC region. The role includes conducting courses online or in person, inspecting facilities, and ensuring compliance with NC DMV policies and state laws.

Qualifications

Experience with teaching and training per NC DMV policies.
Knowledge of non-commercial driver education principles.
Ability to respond to supervisor directions.
Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Conduct Basic Driver Education Instructor Courses (online or in person).
Develop new course curriculum or update existing materials as laws change.
Teach the Vision and Medical Screening Course required by G.S. 20‑7(m)(1).
Conduct annual inspections of existing commercial driver training school locations.
Inspect before new school locations can open; observe instructors as required by regulations.
Represent the Division at conferences and meetings regarding school activities.
Respond to questions from school personnel, instructors, students, parents, and staff.
