Job summary

North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver Education Program Specialist to train and certify school bus drivers in classroom and behind-the-wheel settings, and to conduct vision and medical screenings for driver education classes.

The role includes training CDL instructors, inspecting training schools/vehicles, and investigating complaints, with strict reporting to DMV central office. A Bachelor's degree and CDL endorsements are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Experience teaching in a classroom and developing lesson plans preferred.
• Ability to complete and maintain reports and files; proficiency with Microsoft applications.

Responsibilities

• Teach and certify school bus drivers in classroom and behind-the-wheel settings.
• Conduct vision and medical screenings for driver education classes.
• Provide training and certification for CDL instructors; inspect training schools and vehicles.
• Investigate complaints involving commercial driver training; maintain weekly DMV reports.
