Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a driver to operate tractor-trailers and handle dock duties in Bethlehem. You will perform safety inspections, hook/unhook trailers, and manage freight using forklifts and pallet jacks.

The role requires a valid CDL (or CLP), a clean MVR, and adherence to DOT regulations. You will communicate with Dispatch, assist customers, and may perform occasional road-driving tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck)
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and placarding
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions on delays, arrivals, equipment problems
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales
• Where necessary, perform road driver or freight handler duties
• Chain vehicle tires
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies
