Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a driver trainee to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, with dock duties and forklift operation. Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT 391 FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers with lift demands.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds repeatedly.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and maneuver in truck or dock.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections and safety checks.
• Hook/unhook trailers and convertor dollies as needed.
• Handle freight using forklift and hand trucks.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets/straps/rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, issues, or arrivals.
• Lead customer interactions and determine pickup/delivery needs.
• Potentially perform road driver or freight handler duties as needed.
