Job summary

Family Service League seeks a part-time Driver to support our Smithtown Shelter. The role transports clients to appointments and helps coordinate food donation pickups to meet basic needs.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, at least 1 year of experience with children and families, strong communication skills, and a valid NYS driver’s license; bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience with children and families.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Enforce rules, regulations, and policies of shelter.
• Transport clients to appointments.
• Coordinate with LICARES, Island Harvest, and other agencies to pick up donations weekly.
• Perform daily vehicle safety checks and report issues.
• Complete monthly vehicle logs and submit them to the Assistant Program Director.
• Ensure vehicles have up-to-date registration and insurance.
• Maintain routine maintenance of the vehicle.
• Address safety issues in the vehicle and remove dangerous items.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Collaborate with Security to discuss and resolve client incidents.

Monday - Thursday 9A-1P

Friday 9A-12:30P

SUMMARY:

Family Service League is seeking a part-time Driver to work at our Smithtown Shelter. The Driver will transport clients in an agency vehicle to necessary appointments and to meet basic needs. The Driver will be responsible for coordination of picking up food donations from other agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Enforce rules, regulations, and policies of shelter.
• Transport clients to DOL, DSS, and other necessary appointments.
• Enforce the use of safety belts in the vehicle and that all children are in appropriate car seats.
• Coordinate with LICARES, Island Harvest, and other agencies to pick up donations weekly.
• Perform daily vehicle safety checks and report any issues to Assistant Program Director.
• Complete monthly vehicle logs and submit them to the Assistant Program Director.
• Ensure vehicles have up to date registration and insurance.
• Maintain routine maintenance of the vehicle.
• Address any issues of safety in the vehicle and remove any dangerous items.
• Set and observe appropriate boundaries with clients; observe client confidentiality and HIPPA protocols.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Collaborate with Security to discuss and resolve client incidents.
• This position is essential to the safe and continuous operation of the program. Essential employees are expected to report to work during inclement weather and other relevant emergency situations to ensure uninterrupted care and support for clients.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children and families required.

Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required.

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.

Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Bilingual a plus

Valid, Clean, NYS Driver's License required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as moderate lifting up to 10-15 pounds. Must be able to go up and down stairs.
