Job summary

Family Service League is seeking a part-time Driver to work at our Smithtown Shelter. The Driver will transport clients in an agency vehicle to appointments and meet basic needs, and will coordinate picking up food donations from other agencies.

The Driver will operate under the shelter’s safety rules, maintain vehicle logs, and ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements. This role requires a valid NYS driver’s license and at least 1 year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children and families required.
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enforce shelter rules, regulations, and policies.
• Transport clients to DOL, DSS, and other necessary appointments.
• Ensure safety belts are used and child car seats are appropriate.
• Coordinate with LICARES, Island Harvest, and other agencies to pick up donations weekly.
• Perform daily vehicle safety checks and report issues.
• Complete monthly vehicle logs and submit to the Assistant Program Director.
• Maintain vehicle registrations and insurance up to date.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Collaborate with Security to discuss and resolve client incidents.
